Pair of Rare 19th C French Estate-Sized Val d'Osne Urns on Mott Plinths
A fine and very rare pair of statuesque cast iron melon-form gadrooned urns with fixed lion mask ring handles, signed on their bases "Fonderies du Val d'Osne, 50 Bd Voltaire Paris", perhaps the most famous of all French founderies. The urns are surmounted on a conforming pair of stepped and tiered cast iron plinths with maker's labels affixed to the base, stamped "JL Mott Ironworks, NY". This was the largest melon-form urn made by Val d'Osne and, at 5 feet in height and with huge planting wells, they have the perfect scale for a large and impressive estate. We have recently stripped and repainted the urns and plinths in a white satin finish.
