Large 19th C English Cast Iron Urn by Handyside Foundry
Urns by the famous English maker, Andrew Handyside of Derby, are extremely desirable and this particular model is rare. 30 inches high, it features a beaded rim, the body with a frieze of intertwined putti and dolphin motif, flanking dolphin-motif handles, quarter-lobed gadrooning, terminating on a tiered and fluted foot. In excellent structural condition, with no cracks or repairs, and featuring remnants of its original paint, it would benefit from sandblasting and re-painting to preserve it for decades to come. Site this in the center of a romantic garden, perhaps atop a stone or cast iron plinth for additional height and pot up with a simple boxwood topiary. Approximate weight is 180 lbs.
