Pair of Large Eternit Saucer Planters Designed by Willy Guhl

Traditionally known as "vasques", these large shallow saucer planters were designed by the iconic Willy Guhl and produced by Eternit of Switzerland. Their crisp, streamlined form is so visually appealing and they can hold a large planting of shallow-rooted plants such as sedum and grasses. Perfect flanking the entrance to a contemporary home or garden, they are made of fiber cement, a lightweight and durable material that can be left outside in all weather, although we do recommend emptying them and turning them upside-down in harsh winter climates. This pair is in excellent structural condition with no cracks or repairs and the one that shows red in the center can easily be cleaned, as this only a red algae stain. They have a lovely naturally-weathered surface and are stamped "Eternit" on the bottom. Priced and sold as a pair.

Enormous Early 20th C Wrought Iron American Arbor

Large, well-priced garden structures are particularly difficult to find, but we scored a winner in this American wrought iron arbor dating to the 1920s. In two sections that screw together at the top, it features a sturdy riveted wrought iron frame with lovely cross-hatched undulating thick wire attached to the frame. True and straight in form, and with no repairs or missing pieces, it will support pretty much any climber except for aggressive wisteria that when mature, is too heavy for all antique arbors. Imagine this beauty at the far end of an allée covered in Montana Rubens Clematis or Flowering Trumpet Vine. In an old black painted surface with some surface rusting, this arbor is lovely and durable in all climates and we love its look as is, but can have it sandblasted and powder-coated or re-painted to your custom specifications for a modest up-charge. Please note that the depth without the feet is listed below, but the depth including the feet is 32 inches.

18th Century Irish Rustic Stone and Slate Sundial

This rustic sundial was hand-carved from stone and features its original and scribed slate dial plate with replaced bronze gnomon. Although the octagonal dial plate has suffered losses over the years, it is beautifully engraved with a central mariner's star, signed "James (illegible)" and dated "17 (illegible)". We replaced the gnomon with a hand-forged bronze one after the original was broken in half during shipment. Judging from the position of the gnomon, the dial was most probably made for a location in the far North, possibly Ulster. It would be perfect in an informal garden, placed in the center of wildflowers and azaleas. Please note there are cracks and losses to the slate dial plate; nicks to the edges of the stone pedestal with repairs, and darkened stone color secondary to the pervasive coal dust in the north of Ireland.

Magnificent 19th C French Wrought Iron 24 Ft. Long Pergola with Original Brackets

This is truly a very special piece! Sourced from a bistro in Lyon, France, this massive curved-end wrought iron pergola is 24 feet long and features decorative rosettes, its original paint with surface rusting throughout, and four enormous hand-wrought brackets. The frame was originally inserted into a stone wall with the brackets supporting the 4 intersecting rails to provide shade for the bistro's diners. The original insertion parts are still on the brackets, but we have had a massive steel back railing constructed to support the entire structure, as the original one was left behind in the bistro's walls. The frame is now meant to be wall-mounted on a very sturdy wall. The frame separates into two 12 foot long pieces, making transport a bit more easy, but the total frame weight is around 2500 lbs, so a forklift is required to load and unload. A very special piece that you will never find again, it will make your garden!

This combination of pieces is truly stunning. The 19th Century square wrought iron arbor has been heightened by seamlessly adding several feet of matching pointed steel stakes to each leg that makes insertion into the ground a breeze. When installed and planted, you will have a fabulous garden centerpiece that can fit a small table and four chairs for dining or, as shown in the photos, house a large fountain for added oomph. Large French Wooden Vendange Bucket from Burgundy

This wooden beauty was originally used to collect grapes from the vineyards during the "vendange" or grape harvest. It has an elaborate and quite stunning woven design to the top and bottom rims and has been branded with the initials "ML" under one handle. Hand-made of Sycamore and pine with wrought iron banding, we have left it in original found condition, but you may want to polish it with butcher's wax to remove the whitish areas and use it as a planter, kindling bucket, or storage for magazines and newspapers. Whatever use you choose, it is a stunning piece and will give you decades of pleasure inside or out. Please note it does not have drain holes, but we can drill them if you like.

Pair of Large Signed Alsatian Wooden Master Grape Collection Tub Planters #4

On our most recent buying trip, we were fortunate enough to source four pairs of very large wooden tubs that were used as Master Collection Vessels for the grape harvest in Alsace. At least one in each pair is stamped by its maker, "F. Jurascheck, Hattstatt," and they are all hand-made, hence the slight variation in dimensions. We have paired them up as best we could, according to color and size. They would make sensational rustic planters or you could paint them for a more refined look. We recommend using liners inside to preserve their longevity.

Pair of White "Spidlight" Chairs by Douglas Mont for Jetnet with Interior Lights

Not our usual fare, but we were completely entranced by the sculptural form, function and interior lighting capability of these chairs. Cast in a single piece from polypropylene, and originally designed by Douglas Mont in 2000 for Jetnet, who has produced them ever since, these chairs rarely are seen in white, which we think is the most appealing of colors for a contemporary pool, garden or loggia. They  feature a tripod base with curved tapering seat back, and a hole to the underside for inserting an electric light. The underside is impressed with the maker's mark. Wonderful condition and very comfortable! Please note that we have not yet changed out the wiring from French to American, but this is included in the price.

Unusual French Rectangular Galvanized Steel Dining Table

We adore the funkiness of this pair of hand-made galvanized tables that were constructed to abut each other to make an enormous dining table. A few of the legs have a bit of teak showing through on the legs, but we think this only lends to their charm. Difficult to tell from the photos, the surface features a cross-hatched diamond design with elevated parts, but fortunately, the maker was clever enough to leave the places for diners flat. Definitely one of a kind, these would be equally at home outside in your garden or terrace or inside as a main dining table in an modern or industrial setting. These tables will comfortably seat 10. Please be aware that when we bought these, they were sitting in a garden and so we did not notice that three of the legs on the back table are shorter than the front table and so will require shimming if they are not going back to the garden where you can level them by embedding the front table in the soil. Alternatively, we can cut the front table down to match the back one if they are to sit on a paved surface or inside. Height listed below is for the table with shims. If we cut the legs, the table will be lowered to a finished height of approximately 28 inches.

Unusual Coffee Table Made from a 200 Year-Old Honey-Brown Tribulum

A tribulum is an ancient hand-made threshing board, inlaid with chips of flint or stone, that has been used since Roman times to separate grains from the chaff.

We were fortunate enough to score two of these coffee tables, this one in a lovely honey brown color, and the other in a driftwood grey, each with four contemporary black steel legs (now sold).

Each is unique and hand-made and we adore the unusual form with one downward sloping wooden end and the main part of the table inlaid with small stones. While they are stunning as is, you can have glass tops cut to cover the stone-laden area for a smooth top, or use as is with a large tray for serving drinks.

One tribulum form, once common in Mediterranean countries, was about three to four feet wide and six feet deep (these dimensions often vary, however), consisting of two or three wooden planks assembled to one another, of more than four inches wide, in which several hard and cutting flints crammed into the bottom part pull along over the grains. In the rear part there is a large ring nailed, that is used to tie the rope that pulls it and to which two horses are usually harnessed; and a person, sitting on the threshing board, drives it in circles over the cereal that is spread on the threshing floor. Should the person need more weight, he need only put some big stones over it.
