Pair of Tall English Cast Stone Urns on Exceptional Carved Pedestals
The gorgeous weathered surface of these large classic campana-form urns belies their true age, but only you will be the wiser. Beautiful lichen and mossy bits cover the surface and they have very deep planting wells, so can handle even the most profuse planting. Perfect flanking your doorway or garden entrance. Wonderful condition, with only a tiny chip to one rim.
We have paired these urns with a magnificent pair of mid-19th century English Renaissance Revival gritstone pedestals that are elaborately carved and feature fleur-de-lys and scrolls throughout. One pedestal features a large central medallion of a horseshoe and the other, a large central medallion of a castle. Both pedestals have large central medallions of sun faces on the opposite sides of the horseshoe and castle medallions. The pedestals are in superb condition, with only a few minor chips, but the bases on both are not original and date to the early 20th Century.
Urns: England, CA 1940.
Pedestals: England, CA 1850 and 1910.

Pair of Tall English Cast Stone Urns on Exceptional Carved Pedestals
This classical cast iron campana-form urn has the most beautiful old green painted surface and is in exceptional condition. With a plain, everted rim and semi-lobed body, it is the perfect accent piece beside your front door or standing alone in a small herb garden. Very sculptural, it needs no adornment, but has a very deep planting well that can accept a large arrangement. The foot measures 8.5" square.
This is a gorgeous and early French cast iron campana urn with a plain, everted rim and semi-lobed body. In old green paint, it would make a real statement beside your front door potted up with a profuse arrangement of annuals or wavy grasses. It is also just the right height for a table base, so you could fill it with shells or moss and top with a 60" round of glass for a fabulous indoor or outdoor dining table. Foot measures 10" square.
Grand Pair of 18th C Carved Yorkstone Urns Owned by the Duke of Marlborough
This is one pair of an amazing and stately set of four hand-carved campana-form urns with quarter-lobed bodies and plain everted rims on their original tiered plinths. They originally decorated one of the Duke of Marlborough's gardens at Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire (a listed National Trust property) and they deserve to go to an outstanding, if not historic, garden. Hand-carved from Yorkstone, a very heavy and hearty stone capable of withstanding virtually any climate, we have left these urns outside in CT over many winters and only covered the urn mouths. They have an amazing patina with moderate greening to the stone and some moss. Overall in very good structural condition, with no instability, they do have losses to the plinths and urn rims, which is to be expected of urns of their age and quality. We commissioned what is known as a "sympathetic restoration" to 3 of the 4 urns and plinths in England by a master stone mason. This included cutting 2 new blocks of Yorkstone for 2 bottom bases, but this pair of urns has their original bases. The new pieces have since weathered to a uniform greenish-taupe color with moss and it is difficult to tell where the restoration was done. Please note that these urns have planting wells that can accept 8" diameter flower baskets or a profuse planting of annuals, even though urns of this stature would not have been planted in the 18th C. Please note that the plinths measure 21 inches wide x 21.25 inches deep x 29 3/8 inches high, while the urns measure 32.25 inches high x 24 3/8 inches diameter. The planting well is 8 inches high x 8.5 inches diameter at the top. Each urn/plinth breaks down into 6 pieces for easier transport, but approximate weight for each urn with plinth is 600 lbs.

Impressive Pair of Continental Overscale Cast Iron Urns with Serpent Handles
These enormous cast iron urns were removed from the Colgate Estate in Northwestern Connecticut and will make an impressive statement at the entrance of your estate. Very heavy and with entwined snake handles and lotus-form bodies, they have large drain holes and would be magnificent planted with an exuberant arrangement of sweet potato vines, coleus and millet. Please note that there is minor surface rusting around the bottom edges of the urns and lightly-rusted spots to the paint here and there, but nothing that negatively impacts their look or functionality. They can be re-painted or sandblasted and powder-coated to your custom specifications for a modest up-charge. We believe them to be from France but are not certain. Please install them on compacted gravel or stone to prevent sinkage over the years. They can be left outside year-round in all climates, but we do recommend emptying them of soil and covering their openings in harsh winter climates.
Pair of Rare 19th C French Estate-Sized Val d'Osne Urns on Mott Plinths
A fine and very rare pair of statuesque cast iron melon-form gadrooned urns with fixed lion mask ring handles, signed on their bases "Fonderies du Val d'Osne, 50 Bd Voltaire Paris", perhaps the most famous of all French founderies. The urns are surmounted on a conforming pair of stepped and tiered cast iron plinths with maker's labels affixed to the base, stamped "JL Mott Ironworks, NY". This was the largest melon-form urn made by Val d'Osne and, at 5 feet in height and with huge planting wells, they have the perfect scale for a large and impressive estate. We have recently stripped and repainted the urns and plinths in a white satin finish.

This classic cast iron campana-form urn is simply lovely. Perfect as an accent piece indoors or out, it has a drain hole that can be plugged should you wish to use it as a vase. In old silver paint. You may also want to have a look at the other two smaller urns shown above in photos 5, 6 and 7, as they would make a charming trio on a larger table.
This diminutive cast iron campana urn is the perfect accessory for a bedside table or on a small bistro table on your terrace. It has a drain hole that can be plugged should you wish to use it as a vase. In old silver paint with some surface rusting. You may also want to have a look at the other two smaller urns shown above in photos 5 through 7, as they would make a charming trio on a larger table.
Clean and simple, but with loads of character, this pair of large cast stone bowl planters will make the perfect addition to your contemporary home and garden. Rimmed with a heavy pebble aggregate, they work beautifully at a seaside residence filled with grasses and sedum. Very heavy and sturdy with pre-drilled drain holes. One has a 8" long area of iron armature showing through the side near the bottom (photo #7) that does not not affect serviceability. Please note that we have only this one available.
Set of Five Huge Hillside Stacking Planters or Cascading Fountain
These contemporary demilune planters can be stacked in a straight or sweeping vertical plane or used back to back to form circles. Made from a now-weathered dark brown concrete with a hint of rose, they feature a heavy dark grey aggregate on the exposed edges that works beautifully with grasses, sedum and trailing vines. Alternatively, you can plug the drain-holes to create a magnificent cascading hillside fountain. They can also be used as curved steps in a garden, either planted with grass or turned upside-down. These planters are in very good condition, two have a hairline crack to the front face that does not affect form or function and they have overwintered in Connecticut uncovered for several years with no damage.

Set of Five Huge Hillside Stacking Planters or Cascading Fountain
We are still not entirely sure what this piece was originally intended as, given its hollow tree-form base, but we would use it as a planter, umbrella stand or, most likely, as the fabulous piece of sculpture it is without adornments. Johnny Angel is missing his left hand, but no matter as his naïveté and joie de vivre outshine all. We can have a bottom mortared to the tree-form base if you like to accommodate a large planting. In good condition overall, the figure has a few hairline cracks to the right shoulder and right ankle that are very solid and do not compromise form or function in any way. These can be repaired upon request.
Five Piece Wrought Iron Dining Set in Lattice Pattern
This charming five piece dining suite comprises four chairs with removable, newly-covered cushioned slip seats and a rectangular glass-topped table. The wrought iron now has some moderate surface rusting, but nothing than cannot easily be remedied with a can of spray paint. The glass top, which is thin and not original, has a few chips, but is perfectly serviceable if you don't want to invest in heavier glass. There are four original chairs, but one can seat six at the table if needed. Lovely in the garden and the chairs are VERY comfortable.

Five Piece Wrought Iron Dining Set in Lattice Pattern
This lovely hand-wrought iron grille was not originally intended as a gate, but could easily be transformed into one with hinges by our talented blacksmith. It is in perfect structural condition, with surface rusting, and, of course, can be sandblasted and painted to your customer specifications on request. Wonderful on a wall over an outdoor fireplace, as a gate to your secret garden, or make into an outdoor coffee table.
Tall Italian Marble Tazza Fountain with Double-Entwined Dolphins
This classically-elegant tazza-form marble fountain in 5 parts is absolutely stunning. Removed from a posh London conservatory, its lightly-honed surface belies its true age, but the quality of the carving is all that one could ask for in a period piece. The riser has recessed palm leaf panels and the underside of the bowl is covered with anthemion leaves. Two entwined dolphins with bronze spigots complete the look. In beautiful condition overall, the dolphins have 2 old, barely-visible repairs. Very minor chipping to base commensurate with age and use.

English Fireclay Fountain of Child with Fish Attributed to LEFCO
This unusual and lovely fountain in two parts features a frog-decorated rockwood base surmounted with a seated child grasping a fish. It is easy to plumb and place in a small basin for your city garden or terrace. Alternatively, it doubles as a statue and would make a charming focal point in a small herb or rose garden. In overall excellent condition, there are a few tiny chips to the base of the fountain and a small chip on the mouth of the fish. Surface commensurate with age. Fireclay is very hardy in cold weather and can be left outside year-round uncovered as long as it is installed on stone or compacted gravel. Unsigned, but reliably attributed to the Leeds Fireclay Company (LEFCO).

Used throughout the Mediterranean countries to store water and oil from ancient times through the 19th C, terracotta amphora have made a resurgence in gardens and interiors as pieces of sculpture and water features. This one has one remaining handle that makes it resemble an oversized pitcher and it sports a beautifully weathered surface. Other than the missing handle, this piece is in excellent condition with minor wear and a few chips consistent with age and use. It will need to be covered or brought inside during the winter in cold climates.
Superb Pair of French Terracotta Armorial Lions, Signed "Garouste"
This superbly-modeled and executed opposing pair of terracotta lions was crafted and signed by the well-known 19th C atelier of Jean Garouste in Castelnaudary, Southwestern France. Fabulous detailing, exceptional patina, differing head postures, and wonderful condition make these a very rare find indeed. Perfect atop tall stone gate piers to guard the entrance to your home, or flanking your front door, these lions are magnificent and likely never to be found again.

Superb Pair of French Terracotta Armorial Lions, Signed "Garouste"
What a charming piece and quite rare! This beautifully-carved statue is most probably from the Low Countries (Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg) and features a young boy with mandolin serenading his little sister. She gazes upwards adoringly at him, offering him a fistful of flowers. The statue has a beautiful patina and moss in spots that will return to a lustrous green, once placed back outside in the cool, damp shade. There is a solid repair to brim of the boy's hat executed by our restorer that is difficult to detect. Otherwise, the figure is in excellent condition.
Magnificent Life-Size Italian Terracotta Statue of Flora
It is rare to find a life-size garden terracotta statue of such age that, other than missing its hands, is in remarkably good condition. Stamped on the base, the maker is illegible, but one can make out that she originated from Milan. This life-sized statue of Flora, Goddess of Spring, is magnificently-sculpted and hand-pieced and the details on her hair and dress make this a work of art that will command admiration for centuries to come. Suitable for interior or exterior decoration, Flora would make an outstanding focal point at the center of a boxwood parterre or in a foyer, conservatory or dining room. If placed outside, she will need to be covered in winter unless your climate is mild year-round.

Rare English Fireclay Sundial by Compton Potteries
This is, by far, our most unusual sundial, and one of our all-time favorites. It features Atlas holding the "world," bisected by a gorgeous and unusual verdigris demi-lune bronze gnomon. Even though Atlas has lost his head, the "world" has been repaired, the top piece and octagonal 22" diameter base have numerous chips, dings, repairs and losses, nothing could be be more appropriately allegorical today. The riser is in near perfect condition. In heavily-weathered and beautifully-patinated surface, we discovered this beauty in a private Sheffield, England garden during a downpour but just had to have it. And because it is made of fireclay, it will perform well in cold climates, but should be covered in the winter. In 3 parts. Fair condition.
