Enormous Pair of German Ceramic Crucible Planters

Crucibles have been used throughout history to smelt metal and other substances, but the ceramic ones make outstanding planters. These grabbed us right away because of their enormous size and stunning sea-green color. Their very large planting wells will accommodate topiary and small trees and they have barely been used so the usual rim chips are pretty much absent. Wonderful potted up with moss for a Zen look or with Millet grass and trailing vines, they would be fabulous flanking the door of a contemporary or Arts and Crafts home. Stamped “Made in Germany”.

French Round Cast Stone Planter/Sink

We love the form, size, and weathered patina on these cast stone vessels and, because pieces that can be used as sinks are always in great demand, we are selling them separately. Both are in excellent condition, but one has two lightly-weathered and shallow chips to the rim that are about 4” long (shown in photos below). Dating to the 1920s-1940s, they each weigh about 80 lbs. and have their original drain holes. Please note that the one without the chips has sold, so only one remains.

Two Pairs of Large Mid-Century Modern French Versailles Planters

Yes, it does sound funny using the descriptor “Mid-Century Modern” in conjunction with “Versailles Planters” but these are exactly what they are. Dating to the 1970s and hand-made in France, we love the quirkiness of the pipe corners, wooden side slats, and funky paint. They also have mesh metal floors that drain well. Of course, they could be painted to be uniform in color, but you decide! We love them as is and they will hold large topiaries or a profusion of blooms. Fabulous flanking the door to your contemporary country or beach house.

Elegant Three-Tier French Cast Stone Fountain

We rarely buy tiered fountains, but were struck by the simple, elegant form of this one, its wonderful condition, and the ease with which it is assembled. In six pieces, the overall weight is about 700 lbs., but the largest bowl is no more than 250 lbs. It would make a stunning focal point in a contemporary garden or modern parterre and if you don’t fancy a fountain, it can be planted with a profuse array of annuals and trailing vines. In excellent antique condition, it has no cracks, chips or repairs. And the great thing is you can make two fountains out of the bottom and middle pedestals and bowls if you like!

French 19th C Cast Iron Courtyard Fountain, Signed Gaget Gauthier, Paris

We adore the faded blue/green color on this stunning cast iron courtyard fountain that is signed by its maker in Paris, the famous foundry of Gaget Gauthier (which incidentally also pieced together all the copper to make the Statue of Liberty). The shell-motif lunette on top, reeded side columns, and center motif of cattails and Poseidon’s Trident are crisp and simply beautiful. Dating to around 1850, it is in perfect antique condition, but sadly lacking its original faucet. However, it would be quite easy to order a simple brass or bronze spigot or fabricate one, and thereafter, installation is easy.

Very Large Round French Carved Stone Pot/Planter/Fountain

Recently, we were able to source five enormous stone pots carved from Pierre de Rognes, a very hard stone from the area of Aix en Provence and they are stunning. Thick-walled, very rare, and in lovely condition, this grand pot would make a wonderful focal point in any garden either upright or on its side and can be plumbed as a fountain. In excellent condition, it has no chips, cracks or repairs. Weighing in at around 750-850 lbs., you will need a forklift onsite to handle it. Please note that this piece can stay outside throughout the winter in all climates if covered. We recommend installing it on a concrete footing or slab of stone to prevent sinking.

Exceptional Huge English Wrought Iron Regency Tree Bench, CA 1820

We have never seen a Regency Tree Bench as large and impressive as this one, in spite of the professional restorations that we estimate are about 20 years old. In two parts that easily bolt together, it has a fabulous faded black patina with lots of lichen and a bit of surface rusting. All the feet have been professionally replaced, along with a small section of the back (the iron is a slightly larger gauge than the original) and a few slats on the seat. Large enough to complement a majestic tree, it also looks wonderful standing alone as in the photos. Please note that the two parts do not exactly line up (see photos of the joints) but this does not detract from its beauty or utility. Feel free to leave this outside year-round and uncovered as it will only become more beautiful over time.
